As you can tell I have been giving a lot of thought to Marketing and Branding as a concept lately. Do you remember the movie Jerry Maguire where Cuba Gooding Jr. and Tom Cruise are shouting, “Show me the money” at one another? Humorous and unforgettable, right? Jerry Maguire was living the struggle of building brands for athletes, specifically Rod Tidwell. That was his purpose and his demise.
In that touching and entertaining movie, there was also a subtler scene with wise words that most would consider a foundational step toward getting to see aforementioned money. That precursory concept was given life in the impassioned plea by Jerry, Tom Cruise’s character, to Rod, Cuba’s character. It was simply this: “Help me… help you.”
